I work as a massage therapist in a day spa and wondered what the labor laws were concerning commission wages. I get a percentage from the massages I perform and do not receive a base pay. I work part-time and am scheduled to work 20 hours a week. Although I only perform around 8 one-hour massages a week, I am required to "sit around" for the other 12 hours without pay. Is this legal? What are the laws concerning commission wages in California?
