Hi I am from Texas and recently just had my son on October 18, 2005. The father of my child was born in Mexico but was raised over here. So basically he has been here all his life. Anyways he works with his dad and gets paid cash money. I know for a fact that he gets paid at least $400.00 a week. I filed child support a week after my son was born. I recieved a letter in the mail to be in Texas City at the Attorney Generals Office to meet with the Father of my child...well of course he didn't show up and anyways I got to talking to the caseworker and she told me since he gets paid cash that all he will be ordered to pay id 160.00 a month. I just feel that thats totally unfair. I mean whats wrong with the law now days ....160.00 a month please that only covers one week of child care... and I just think that maybe they should make these dead beat guys get a real job! He files his income tax every year but his dad doesn't report the correct amount that he really pays his son. I just think that it's a messed up situation. Would I benfit to get a lawyer.

I know the system is messed up in Texas. And believe me it will never get any better. My ex hasnt paid child support in over 4 years and hasnt seen the kids in a year but the Attorney General's office just told me today that there was nothing they were going to do. My case was on hold. A private attorney may be of some help, you can usually get more done. I would at least speak to one to see what your options are. Most attorneys dont charge you for the first consultation. Its worth a try. Good luck and I hope you have an easier time than I have had.

First off cowpat.... you need to give advice on this site not bash people. If I were to guess I would say you were a dad that thinks child support is unfair. And by the way it takes two people to make a baby and two to take care of it, however as in mine and alot of others cases, the father is absent. So what would you call a father who never sees his children and has never paid child support or has any kind of contact with the children what so ever. In your mind I guess he would be considered a good father who just doesnt like court orders. Well guess what, just because you dont like them that doesnt give you the right to neglect and abandon your child. As for hmkidder, good for you for taking care of the child you and someone else created. Because, some me sure as hell dont do it. As for the typical white trash comment, look to yourself first, I mean who names them self after cow dung.
