Good Evening to all,
I have a friend that works in California who has been told that they will need to use their PTO and if they don't have any that they will not get paid for the time that they are off. The problem is that most of the people are salary employees, I though that federal labor law requires that salary employees get paid regardless. True or not, please point me to the right direction. :(

I assume by "salaried", you mean "exempt", since "salaried" is merely a pay method. If you are saying the employer does not offer paid holidays, then in any other state but California, I would be comfortable in saying that it is not illegal to require PTO be used to substitute for regular salary without the employee's request or agreement. However, PTO rules are SO regulated in California, I'll let our CA guru address your question specifically. Hopefully, he'll be along later today.
