I was was given a 30-day layoff notice from a government agency, and I have it in writing. I'm a temporary employee, but am still an employee of the gov't agency and recieve benefits all the benefits of an employee. Now my boss wants to change the date to the end of this week because I took 2 sick days recently, and my workload is dwindling. Can my boss legally do this?

Unless the document rose to the level of a valid, enforceable contract for a guaranteed term of employment (which is HIGHLY unlikely), no it is not illegal. If they choose to advance the layoff date, they may.
