Are there any laws in Pennsylvania or the Federal government stating that before you can layoff people, people that are elligable for retirement must go first??

Encouraging people to take early retirement is one method a company can use to mitigate the effect of potential layoffs on the work force. Deliberately laying off only the people who are eligible for retirement is an open invitation to an age discrimination lawsuit.

Holey moley. :eek: The law specifically BARS employers from selecting employees for layoff/termination based on age.

Not only is there no such law, but putting a policy to that effect in place would, in fact, violate the law.
