Recently I was terminated for "asking" someone to lie about an accident that occurred which would have resulted in another employees termination. Coincidently earlier the same week 600 employees were let go and I was let go without severance and told I could not get a severance because the position was going to be refilled (4 months later it's still vacant and never going to be backfilled). Bottomline, the companies reasoning for my termination was a perfect excuse for the company to not have to pay another severance package. There are about 3 other things that occured that clearly point to this termination being a farce. In fact, the company told me that they would not dispute my unemployment with the state so I could collect. In essence they "lied" on my behalf doing exactly the same thing that I was terminated for?

Interestingly enough the person incharge of the state was aware of this and previous incidents in fact encouraged taking care of these type of minor incidents whenever possible.

Should I pursue or just move on? Personally, I feel I have a very valid case... legally that is a question for the experts.... please help.

Two wrongs don't make a right. The employer was not required by law to grant severance pay unless you had a valid, enforceable employment contract that stated they would. And there is nothing illegal about the employer "lying" about the reason you were terminated. I don't see any case here.

In Connecticut, the employer is not required to inform the state of your reason of termination. If you seek unemployment, the employer is sent a form that you are seeking unemployment. If the employer wants to contest being charged for your unemployment, the employer returns a form protesting your unemployment. In your case, the employer simply did not contest your unemployment -- the employer did not lie about your reason of termination: the employer simply did not return the protest form.
