i live in kentucky
i want to become emancipated
i'm 14 years of age
but there's nothing wrong wiht my family
my parents just get mad about dumb stuff
and i'm tired of it
and i hate my hometown
would a judge emancipate me?

hello

to be considered eligible for emancipation you must be able to care for yourself.

at the age of 14 I doubt that you could even get a job to ensure yourself enough income to get any judge to approve this.

I suggest that you ask your family to participate in family counseling.

this will help all aspects of your relationship at home.

unfortunately i presume your only option would be to ask for placement in foster care at this point and i can almost guarantee that you would not like this any more than your current situation. A situation that may be relieved by family counseling and help from perhaps extended family if you have some.

please post further and elaborate on your circumstances that are making you so very unhappy.

The teen age years are hard ones and I hope that the many supportive people on this web site may have some more ideas for you

God Bless and I will keep you in my prayers. I have 3 teenagers also and I think that if one of them asked me to participate in family counseling to help them feel better about themselves i would do so without hesitation.

A person under the age of 18 in Kentucky is considered emancipated when:

He/she becomes self-supporting
Joins the armed forces; or
Is released from the control of his/her parents or guardian by a court order.

At the age of 14, you can't join the armed forces, and you can not get a job that fully supports you. (Self supporting means working and paying your own bills without having to rely on someone else to do that.) In order for a judge to emanciapte you, you'd have to show you are self-supporting.

So, I'd have to say that it's highly unlikely that a judge would grant you emancipated status.

i have this plan to move in wiht one person every 6 months, and travel acroos the US in a few years. but i doubt my parents would like me doing that, so emancipation is my only way.

Moving in with someone at all (let alone move every 6 months) is not self supporting. You have to be able to make enough money to be able to pay rent, utility bills, food, etc... all things that adult pay to be self supporting. Even under the age of 18 it is extremely difficult.

No. Emancipation isn't available so that a teenager can get away from her parent's "stupid rules", or because she hates her hometown. Hey, we all have to live in situations that aren't ideal, you are a minor, tough it out. You'd have to prove that you can support yourself (not living with other people), have a full-time job that will pay the bills for a suitable living environment, food, etc.
