My ex-grilfriend and I have a 5 mo old son that we cannot come to agreements on. We both want to spend as much time as possible with him; he lives with her and her parents so she thinks she can call all the shots as far as when I get to see him and not. So far it is about 90% to 10% in her favor. We have many relationship differences that we cannot get past so she holds my son against me when things are not going well. I want to be in his life 100% but I dont want to take time away from her cause she is a good mother, all I want is time with my son and cant get it. We have said we will not get the state involved and we will settle this ourselves, but when it comes down to it, I can only see him when she wants me to, like when she goes out with her friends. Any opinions on what my best options are? I have a stable job making $40,000/yr, provide insurance, and pay child support. She waits tables part time, and lives on her parents income. Sometimes I just want to steal my child away for the weekend just to spend time with him. I am a willing father who wants to provide infinate emotional support and caring for my only son. Any Ideas?????

hello

you have only 2 options.

prepare and file with the court a parenting plan designating conservatorship
and child support matters as detailed as possible. you both have to agree and sign and notarize usually called a consent order or settlement agreement in some states

this is the only way if you are not wanting to go to court.

the other option is to file with the courts and hope that you get joint conservatorship or at least a steady schedule with as much time as possible.

personally i would try option one and if she refuses to cooperate take her to court and request full custody on the basis of her continually frustrating your efforts to parent your child.

ask for it all and hope for half.

in the meantime document every minute every bath every diaper change every bottle.

example parenting plans are all over the web and an excellant cite for parents in your situation is

lots of parents from texas and lots of info and support. example parenting plans are in the article section.

Good luck
