our son receives financial aid to go to college. he also works at kfc and told them his college schedule so he can be scheduled for work around these times. for the 4th week in a row now they scheduled him during class time so that he missed his classes. apparently he will automatically fail the class if missing it 4 times in a row. that of course means he has to pay back financial aid to the school for the failed class.
is it ok for the employer to force him to decide between school and employment after agreeing to work around his college schedule?

Frankly, yes. Your son's college schedule is none of their concern. They have no legal obligation to arrange their scheduling needs around his convenience.

If he cannot make both his work schedule and his college classes, then he may need to find another job. His employer has violated no laws.
