I was moved to California by my company about 8 months ago. About two months after moving, I had to sign a "forgiveness" schedule stating that I would have to pay back the relocation expenses incurred by the company for moving me. It is outlined as decreasing by 2% each week until, after one year, it has been completely forgiven. I have heard in the past that this violates anti-slavery laws and is illegal. I have also heard that if the letter was not given to me as a condition of employment (i.e. before I actually started working here), that it was illegal. I just put in my notice today and am wondering if they can really make me pay it back. Help!

What you heard is off the wall and totally incorrect. This is an agreement you made, and you signed it voluntarily. It is perfectly legal.
