Question: My job description states "exempt" so I understand I am not entitled to overtime. However, if I am consistantly working well over 40 hours am I entitled to take back some time "comp time?"
My personal life and family is really taking a hit.
I've been told I "get paid for my work content, not unfortunately my hours." I've also been told that if I leave a few hours early on Friday it's a gift
Whereas I was thinking more like I'm done for the week as I've already put in well over 40.

While comp time is permitted by law for exempt employees, it is not required by law. It is up to the employer whether to allow it or not.

It is by no means unusual for an exempt employee to work 50, 60, 70 or more hours per week on a regular basis. You are paid on the basis of completing your work, not on the basis of a 40 hour week. Too many exempt employees have the idea that they are paid for working 40 hours and that anything over and above that is "free", unpaid time for which they are entitled to take time off. That isn't how it works. Your salary is determined on the basis of the job responsibilities, not your hours.
