The company my husband works for has violated many California labor laws (prevailing wage, travel time, mileage reimbursement, pay schedule, overtime...)and he and the other employees are on the verge of going to the labor board. I am aware that CA law does not require paid holidays; however, in the event that a holiday schedule is determined in writing and all other holidays have been and are paid at the rate of 8 hours can they arbitrarily decide to pay the day after Thanksgiving (specifically listed on the schedule as 11/26) at the rate of 4 hours because the day before was not a scheduled work day?! I am a human resource manager and have never heard of anything so ridiculous. I know they are just looking to save a buck. My husband's supervisor called and told him Thanksgiving morning as he wished him a "Happy one". Does he have any recourse?

For the holiday pay, no. Nothing in the law requires holiday pay at all, so the employer can set any rules they like. However, there may be an issue if your husband is an exempt employee. What exactly does he do at his job?
