My friend is currently living with his son's mother and his son. He wants to move out because the mother has "outbursts" where she starts screaming and yelling. But he does not want to leave his son behind. They are not married, and there is no custody order in place for either parent. Could he get into trouble if he were to leave with his son? Or is it legal since there is no custody order in place? PLEASE HELP ASAP!!

I think that he should talk to the mother about her problems and try to save the relationship, even if for the child's sake, before taking off because it will get worse for the child if they split and this person seems very into their child. So first, try to get her to get help and go to counseling to help create a better atmosphere for the child. Leaving may not be the best idea, especially just taking the child because the mother may have a problem, but it is not like the child is in danger and maybe she is not even aware that he does not like the outburst. It may be that the outbursts are hormonal and some kind of post partum depression or hormonal imbalance that can be addressed medically. This just sounds suspect to me, as written.
