I recently resigned from my employer. I was required to give a 30-day notice. Fifteen days into the notice the employer asked me to go ahead and leave. I understand this is common practice with corporations. Quite frankly, I am relieved to be gone. However, I am a therapist in residency (working toward licensure) for severely neglected and abused children. I was not permitted to say good-bye or have proper termination with these kids. This is just one of many offenses made by this employer to the detriment of the kids. What recourse do I have? If I contact the county social workers can I be sued for defamation or held liable? I was not given any reason to the request for me to leave in writing and the company is paying through my resignation date. I am torn because I would like to put this horrible experience behind me but abandoning these kids tears me up. Any assistance would be greatly valued and appreciated.

What recourse do I have? None that I can see. If your employer did not want you to work out the full 30 days of notice, they did not have to.

If I contact the county social workers can I be sued for defamation or held liable? Contact them about what? I do understand your desire to say goodbye to the kids and put closure on your relationship with them but your employer didn't do anything illegal by not allowing that to take place. If this company is violating appropriate/required standards of care for the children, then you certainly should report them to the appropriate agency and I expect you should have done so long ago.
