Curious... August 8, 2003 my former boss called me a stupid woman, after him accusing me of favoring another agent in our office and loosing him $7000 (which by the way is completely un true) I asked if he wanted 2 weeks notice and he told me to leave then so I did, I collected unemployment for I think it was 26 weeks.... needless to say, I have learned that he doesn't say nice things about me and that I pretty much was a thief, in which I never stole from him nor the company. It has taken me since then to finally land a job, and I honestly believe he has been giving bad recommendations... Is there anything I can do or is it too late?

It is probably too late.

Bad references are not illegal. Only UNTRUE references are illegal. You would need proof, not only that he gave you a negative reference, but that the reference was UNTRUE (as opposed to his honestly believed but negative opinion) AND that as a result, you suffered damages. I'm not sure what the SOL would be on something like this even if you could come up with proof.

Consult local counsel.
