Working for State community college as coach/instructor in Kansas. First two years signed a contract. Second year contract signed in april allthough for school year that began the previous august. Third year no contract at all. This year (4th) no contract as of yet. Am not being paid for teaching classes that I was paid for during first two years with a contract. Contracts have numeric codes indicating job duties and percentages of salary assigned to the duties. Maybe teaching not listed on contract but was verbally told I would be paid for the classes and was paid for the classes for the first two years when I signed contracts.

Was told that there was a change in policy and I wouldn't get paid for the classes anymore that it would just be a part of my "extra duties"

Can employer reduce compensation or quit paying me for the classes legally? Can they just stop paying me for something that I was told I would be paid for? Can I demand to be paid for the classes or get a lawyer and pursue the issue?

If you're working, you must be paid. The question is going to become, since you don't have a contract, how much should you be paid. I suggest contacting the state Dept. of Labor to inquire. However, first you need to get your responsibilities and compensation package firmed up.
