I hired a young lady to be a waitress at my restaurant. She began training but a week into it she started calling off and then stopped coming all together. She never filled out her W-4 while she was working though I spoke to her about it many times. She kept saying that she had it and would give it to me at the end of the shift. About two weeks after her last scheduled shift (which she did not show up for or call to say she was quitting) she called demanding her pay check. I explained that I have no way of paying her without her W-4 and she got very irate. I am wondering since I haven't got any information yet and she was not finished training, am I still required to pay her? If so, how do I do that w/out her W-4??? p.s. i'm in pennsylvania

Yes, you are still required to pay her. Patty can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe if she has not completed a W-4, you deduct at the Single, 0 exemption rate.
