I have a question regarding the legal age for minors in Texas. I have someone that I am very fond of, but who is 16. She will be 17 in 6 months. I know that the age of consent in the state of Texas is 17, but does that include relationships of the same-sex? Nothing has occurred between the two of us. We do not even see each other or talk but once or twice a week for a few minutes, but we would like to see where it goes eventually. I am willing to wait the two years or however long, but can her parents have me arrested even though I have done nothing? Her dad has threatened me in the past, although all we have ever done is talk and in public even. We have never been alone together, and that is how I would like to keep it to be on the safe side. Once she turns 17 can her parents dictate who she talks to?

Texas

Parents have the duty of control and reasonable discipline of their child. An individual is a child until they reach the age of 18. Therefore, parents can delegate whom their children associate with until they reach the age of 18. Regarding sexual conduct, the age of consent is 17. There is a homosexual conduct law in the Penal Code that prohibits sexual conduct between two persons of the same gender. However, the United States Supreme Court has ruled that these laws are "unconstitutional" and invalid.

As best I could find, same sex sex is illegal in Texas. See http://ageofconsent.com/ageofconsent.htm (sexual) and scroll down to TX and there are 3 columns for male-female, male-male, female-female sexual relationships
