If I work an 8 hour day or more, am I entitled to breaks in addition to my lunch break? Beth3 11-02-2005, 08:48 AM Pennsylvania employers are required to provide break periods of at least 30 minutes for minors ages 14 through 17 who work five or more consecutive hours. Employers are not required to give breaks for employees 18 and over. If your employer allows breaks, and they last less than 20 minutes, you must be paid for the break. If your employer allows meal periods, the employer is not required to pay you for your meal period if you do not work during your meal period and it lasts more than 20 minutes. cbg 11-02-2005, 08:49 AM As far as the law goes, if you are over the age of 18 you are not even "entitled" to the lunch break. Employers in PA are not required to offer any kind of breaks to their employees at all. I'm very glad you're getting the meal break as I believe all employees should be granted reasonable breaks. But you're already getting more than the law requires. Pattymd 11-02-2005, 08:57 AM Here it is in turquoise and white. http://www.dli.state.pa.us/landi/cwp/view.asp?a=142&Q=61106&landiPNavCtr=|#10 |
