Marketeer 11-02-2005, 06:22 AM That was very difficult to read. Employers do not have to offer any holidays at all -- Jewish, Christian, secular, or whatever. So, it is not discriminatory for your company to only close on Jewish holidays. In fact, it's quite common in New York for businesses that have Jewish owners to only observe those holidays. And, while it was tacky and offensive for your boss to tell you not to leave early on a particular in case non-Jewish customers called (I'm guessing that this was perhaps the night before a holiday or the Sabbath), I personally don't think that that was illegal. Poorly phrased, perhaps, but not illegal. The bottom line is that you worked for someone who was a jerk. Being a jerk is not illegal. As for wages that may have been withheld or withdrawn from your checking account, I would suggest that you contact the state department of labor. The fact isnt about the holidays, it was that the way she worded what she siad i found offensive, and they can take their holidays and say we have no right to ours, wether you say its not against the law or not i'll find a way to get help for that. There was other harrasment about our faiths there was other sigling out other than the holiday incident. Isis_kitten 11-02-2005, 08:12 AM I know that what I wrote was hard to read, I wrote that at 2 am in the morning because its been a week that I had no sleep. I'm sorry if whatever I said angered you but like I said i'm gonna find a way to help myself and people like me. Even if it takes forever i'm not going to give up, but thank you for your time. Yes I am going to pursue the case about the hours the pay and everything else, I know now that I have no discrimination case, but like I said that will be something else that I will find help for wether it be in court or protesting, Sometimes things like these need to go public , like something has to happen for laws to change.
