I recently quit my job of two years without notice due to unexpected circumstances. My employer mailed my last check, but with a statement saying I forfeited my accrued PTO when I left without notice. Is this legal? What resources are available to research their claim?

How do I get evidence that the PTO was both earned vacation leave and/or family leave, and not just emergency family leave? I don't think my employer will send me an employee handbook.

Surprisingly WA St. does not require PTO (or vacation, sick leave, etc) payout at time of termination. There are some states that do. There is no Federal law that applies since PTO and the like is a benefit and not required under federal law.

There are companies that do, including the one I work for, but payout or not is controlled by company policy.
