The Biological Mother Was Unsure Who The Father Was. The Child Was A Year Old Before We Found Out That My Fiance Was The Father. We Pay Child Support On A Regular Basis. That Is Not The Problem. She Is Now Married And The New Husband Would Like To Adopt. We Are In Michigan. My Fiance Has Agreeded To This , He Says It's In The Best Interest Of The Child The New Husband Is The Only Person He Knows As A Father. Child Support Was Stopped As Of 11-01-05. They Will Be Married A Year In June. How Long Does This Process Take For Him To Adopt And What Are We To Expect Rocess?
Thnaks For Any Help.

The length of time depends on how fast the courts in that area is and also what the state requires. If a home study is required then that's one more person to wait on.
Was the CS stopped THROUGH the courts? If it wasn't, be aware that mom can come back on him for that support later.

Yes my fiance and the mother signed a piece of paper stating that he must pay any back pay to her and anything that was owed to the state because she was on assistance. As of 11-01-05 he only has to pay what is owed witch is 268.00 dollars. Ye s we are aware of her being able to enfore it again but she is a pretty laid back person and she just wants the adoption done and over with.

Was this piece of paper signed by a judge? If not it's not worth the paper it's on and if there is a CO for support until the adoption is finalized she could come back with it.

First, I suggest that you get a formal signed release to stop paying child support because he can be tagged with that up until the point of the adoption. That aside, the adoption process takes time, probably at least 6 months, even though all parties are in agreement. A good site with links to read about the process is at http://www.adoption.com
