I am a salary emloyee, we had an employee that was salary, all of our hours vary from 7am to 6pm M-F. I understand that if a salary person works over 40 hours she/he has more flex hours through out the week. The executives preferred her to be here from at least 9am to 5pm everyday. She usually called in sick/personal ext... on a daily basis, did'nt matter what day it was she was usually always running late. She was lucky to make it in before 10am or before 12pm. The executives were usually fustrated by her lateness. But....let it happen. I do admit that she would usually stay late (until 7,8, 9 or 10). But she would also miss at least 1 to 2 days out of the week. I recently was talking to one of my co-workers and mention that I though this was dicrimination and that I was going to look into the situation, because I felt that if it was me, I would have been Terminated. One of the top VP's heard the conversation and with in a few days the person that had poor attendance was terminated. The night before her termination she took all her belongings and decided that she was going to quit. She did not call in to her supervisor,so the supervisor seen me talking with her that night (at the time i didn't know that she had gotten written up for her lateness). Well she became a whistleblower and mention my name in all the mess. Well now I am being watch very closely, since I am an hourly employee I am watched minute by minute and was told I have burnt a lot of bridges, and I have brought this upon myself. So I am basicly not to talk to anyone any more and keep to my self. I do admit I am a very volcal person and I try to turn people in the right direction because I feel I would want some one to do the same. I have taken notes on every incident that reflects me. What do you suggest I do. I have not spoken to the other person that got terminated. I fill that the alligations are one sided.

What do you suggest I do. Keep your head down, your lips buttoned, concentrate on your own business, and let company management worry about who's show up to work on time.

It doesn't make it right for the rest of you. I'd be irritated too if another employee got to show up to work whenever she felt like it and work whatever hours she wanted. The point is though that it is none of your business - it's management's business. Apparently you've been vocal enough with co-workers about management decisions that you don't agree with that they feel you're stirring up problems.

You've voiced your concern and now it's time to keep quiet and just do your job. When you're the boss, you can decide how to handle these matters. Besides, what you have no way of knowing in situations like this is whether the other employee has approved intermittent FMLA leave or a disability requiring some accommodation.

By the way, what you describe is not any form of prohibited discrimination.

Uh, what gave you that idea? That's up to company policy; it is not law.
