I have a friend who was born in Germany in 1964. her father was a British citzen and her mother is Canadian ..
They settled in Canada.. Due immimigration laws back then only the father could give citizenship if he was Canadian .Which would make her ,the child, a citizen of England.
Sometime later on the couple divorced and the mother remarried a Canadian .The birth father wanted nothing to do with his daughter and allowed her stepfather to adopt her .. The adoptive parent has long since passed away..
Does she automatically become a Canadian citizen due to adoption or is she simply a resident of canada and retains her British citizenship ???. If so how would she get a canadian citizenship ??

only the FATHER not the mother of a child may pass on Canadian citizenship if the child was born outside Canada..According to the emmigration laws between 1947 and 1977..Even though the mother was a candian citizen.. the question is... Since she was adopted does she now get canadian citizenship from her adopted father or not ..

My suggestion is to call the Canadian Embassy in D.C. or consulate.
