Hello all,
The short version is this: Unemployed father. Mother took daughter out of state, but I have a child support case. I have not made payments in over a year. I need help on ways to find out how much I owe in child support and some services that can help me resolve this issue and lower my payments. Any help would be greatly appreciated  [/FONT]

Well you can call the equivalent of Office of Recovery Services in your state. They are the ones who collect child support for the children. You can call whatever state agency in your state that handles food stamps, etc. and they will tell you who to contact. It is a sad thing that you did not pay child support for this last year. Are your kids getting enough food, do they have clothes to wear and a warm coat for this winter? Have you taken care of those things for yourself? Then why didn't you think of your kids. Good luck on the employment but do the right thing. Take care of your children.

You need to file papers seeking a reduction in child support based on the change of circumstances-- unemployment and have the papers to support that; you need tobe left with subsistence and what may occur is that a portion of any unemployment payments will go for child support til you are emplyoed. You need to ask that the reduction be retroactive for the period of unemployment. You should qualify for Legal Aid or Legal Services assistance for free. If not, you should go to the court yourself even fi you have to write out the relief you seek and represent yourself.
