I currently reside in NJ where the maximum weekly benefit for short term disability is $417/wk, however I work in NY where the max weekly benefit is $170/wk under the DBL. Does the state of NY provide additional STD if it is not purchased by my employer (which it is not)? Do I qualify for NJ benefits as a resident of NJ?

Please advise, the thought of trying to live of $170/wk is scary, especially with a baby on the way!

Thanks!

You need to speak to the state of NJ as to whether or not you qualify and if so, for what benefits.

However, it is exceedingly unlikely that you will be able to collect under both states. If you collect under NJ as a resident, you can't collect under the NY statute as well.

Yes, I understand that I would not qualify for both. My question is- Can I receive NJ benefits because I am a NJ resident?

And I said, that is a question you will have to ask the state of NJ.
