qwerty69 10-08-2005, 12:00 PM I work for a company that has a posted pay policy of each month on the 5th and 20th.
The company's main office is in Seattle, Wa and there are satellite offices in 5 other location in the state, I work in one of the satellite locations.
My office receives their paychecks late 90% of the time. It is a little as a day, but mostly 2 to 5 days late.
The person incharge blames it on a carrier, but we know, due to this person's inability to remember the story that was told, that the paychecks just were NOT sent.
What is the legal responsibility to pay on time?
What can be done about the continual late paycheck?
Thank You
When does the pay period end?

Pay periods are;
1st to 15th and 16th to end of the month.
Pattymd 10-08-2005, 05:43 PM In Washington, the law only requires you be paid monthly and no later than 7 days following the end of the pay period.
It is unclear to me whether the state Dept. of Labor and Industries would pursue this case because, even though you are getting your paycheck later than the posted payday, you are getting paid within the minimum requirements of the law.
You can contact the state DLI to inquire further, however. See "getting paid".

Do they have a direct deposit option? If not they are way behind the times.
Also, it sounds like the checks are being cut on time, if there is someone that is not getting them in the mail quick enough then I hope you have someone to raise this issue with.
One last thing, a quick check of the post mark date will confirm the story of fault with the carrier.

No they do not.
The boss is the one in charge of getting them in the mail, so nobody higher up in the company. That is why I want to know the legal avenues to persue. I am looking at leaving this company, but for those staying and needing to be paid on time the info may be helpful.
Yes, we have checked that. We know the stories are bogus!

Thanks for the answers, sorry to hear there isn't the direct deposit option. Sounds like that company is a bit behnd the times.
