Ok, I am not sure if I am posting this in the right area. My company is in California. This year for Halloween we would like to encourage employees to dress up in costume. My question is by doing that is there any way that we are opening ourselves up to any kind of liability. If someone here does not celebrate Halloween due to religous reasons could it potentially create some type of discriminatory situation or hostile environment or anything like that? I may be way off base but I could see someone complaining that they are offended by the company participating in the holiday and I want to make sure that I am prepared for that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All you need to do is give employees the option not to participate should observing Halloween offend their personal sensibilities or religious beliefs. If I am "offended" by Christmas, I'm not being discriminated against simply because a good portion of the rest of the world celebrates it.
