Hi - I have a few questions.

1 - I am a male planning on tkaing FMLA for an upcoming adoption of a child and does anyone know what the FMLA notice i give in writing should contain? language etc .

2 - I know for a fact that employees at my company are allowed to work 4 day work weeks and because they have higher degrees they are allowed tro do so although not all are only certain ones so that they don't quit. So my question is if i wanted to take say 2 months FMLA then come bac kunder a reduced schedule for a month say 3 days a week can they say no ? i would think it is illegal however i am not sure so that is why i am asking.

3 - i believe i was turned down a recent promotion because one of the reasons i was given was that "You will be tkaing 3 months off soon so it would be too disruptive" I know this has to be illegal and can i use it as leverage if needed in the future?

thanks for your time

1 - I am a male planning on tkaing FMLA for an upcoming adoption of a child and does anyone know what the FMLA notice i give in writing should contain? language etc . You need to give your employer reasonable advance notice when advance notice is possible. Tell your manager/HR that you will be requesting FMLA due to the adoption of a child. (Congratulations by the way. :) ) If you aren't able to tell them the exact dates yet, tell them your best guess and that you'll notify them of the exact dates as soon as you know. If your employer has leave paperwork they wish you to fill out, they'll give it to you.

Intermittent FMLA following the birth or adoption of a child must be agreed to by the employer and the employee. You need to ask your employer if they will allow you to do this.

3 - i believe i was turned down a recent promotion because one of the reasons i was given was that "You will be tkaing 3 months off soon so it would be too disruptive" I know this has to be illegal and can i use it as leverage if needed in the future? FMLA must be "invisible" so if they turned you down for a promotion because of your upcoming FMLA (which you aren't ssure is the case), then a violation of the FMLA may have taken place. If by leverage you mean you are thinking of blackmailing your employer ("Grant me the reduced leave schedule I want or I'll file a complaint for an FMLA violation'), that is a DANGEROUS game to play and I would strongly advise against it. You might get what you want but your future career prospects with this company will be nil.
