Hi. Here in Illinois, when we are sent home for lack of work, we are required to call in every few hours to see if we are needed. Our employer also may call us off at the being of the shift and put us on call and have us call in every few hours. We are not compensated for this, we have to call them, they do not call us, and the day off is not our own. With the way our employer is doing this,is it legal? Hoping it is against the law. Thanks
Sorry, it is not against the law.

And, not only is it not against the law, it appears that your personal activities are not nearly restrictive enough to require that you be paid while you are "on call". And to be technical about it, this is not a true "on call" situation anyway. But that's really irrelevant to your situation.
I also looked to see if the employer was required to pay "show up pay" of a certain minimum number of hours if you reported to work as scheduled, then were sent home before working your complete scheduled day. I couldn't find anything in Illinois law requiring this either.
What a very sad positionit is that we are in. Thank you.

HI,
At my job, they require you to come in on your days off "to see if they need people to work." Many times we come in and are sent immediately back home. In Illinois, is there a law, where if you come in you have to be paid for a minimum number of hours? If so, can you give me a link to where I can find this information?
Thanks.

Laurie, as I stated earlier, I couldn't find one.
No. There is no law in Illinois requiring that you be paid for any specific number of hours. You are only required to be paid for the time you actually work.
I hope that makes everything clear.
