I work in NY for a private medical practice and I am the first employee to get pregnant,I am 6 months pregnant due in January.So they have informed me they do not have a structured maternity leave policy in place. So they have offered me 8 weeks off but with no pay,so I informed them I would then need to apply for short term disability and they told me to let them know what information I find out if I can apply. But everyone I speak with tells me my employer is supposed to provide me with the information and I have no idea where to begin looking being as my employer seems not to have a clue neither. Please help. I am scared and frustrated I will have no type of income for those 2 months.

I'm not in NY but yes, I would expect the employer is responsible for having information available for their employees regarding the State disability plan. That website should prove helpful in locating a local office you can call (or their HQ in Albany) to obtain the information you need.
