View Full Version : Colorado Travel Pay?

I am an hourly-paid employee who works for an engineering firm in Denver Colorado who provides consultant services to State and private highway construction companies/organizations throughout the state. The office I work for is 1 hr from where I live. I am provided a company vehicle to commute from home to the jobsite and back home. I don't have a "set" work schedule and work as many hours as necessary to get the job completed.

Last week I worked in Colorado Springs which required 3.5 hrs of travel from my home to the jobsite and back each day. The company I work for is letting me charge 1 hr for travel time each day. If I had driven to our Denver office first and then to the jobsite it would require 2 hrs travel per day. I feel I should get 2 hrs of travel time per day?

Next week I'm assigned to a jobsite for two months that is 10 hrs (round trip) away. The company will pay my travel time (to come home and go back) for 1 weekend (10 hrs), the company we are consulting for will pay for 1 weekend (10 hrs), but the other two weekends each month are on my own time (20 hrs/month).

I talked to the owner of the company and he says it is company policy to pay only 1 hr per day for travel and if he makes an exception for me he is setting himself up for a lawsuit with other employees, which I understand.

I'm frustrated and feel like I'm being taken advantage of!
