I have a question for mileage reimbursement in California. My current job is somewhat unique as far as the commute goes. We have three offices in our coverage area. Every evening we are given our work assignments for the next day by email. Recently we have been told that we have to count the mileage as the distance from whichever office our assignment is out of. I don't have to go to that office to start my work day as I can go straight to that assignment. Many times I am given an assignment time that is at the same time as my shift time starts, making me to leave even earlier from home to start work. Shouldn't I be able to charge the mileage from when I leave from home to that assignment? Instead of from one of the three offices?
I hope this all makes sense, if not please feel free to ask for any clarifications.
Thanks for your time,

To the best of my knowledge, the company is not required by law to reimburse you for mileage at all, so the mileage they will or will not reimburse you for is up to them.

In California Employees must be reimbursed for their employment related expenses including mileage reimbursement. Although the IRS rate is not required to be used if often is.
Labor code section 2802 requires an employer to indemnify his or her employee for all necessary expenditures or losses incurred by the employee in direct consequences of the discharge of his or her duties.
Basically they must give you a decent mileage rate. As far as when you start the mileage, i think you are supposed to wait a half hour, but i am not too sure on that. You might want to keep looking for you answer.
Ed, you may not have noticed, but that thread was from last September. I don't imagine that six months after the fact, the poster is still coming back looking for new answers.
Please check the dates of threads before you answer.
