I was told verbally and also via our employee handbook that I will receive a STD pay of 60% during my maternity leave up to 8 weeks. After my son was born I received a letter from the insurance company that there is a 2 weeks waiting period. My boss, the plan administrator and our secretary who handles the insurance claims were not aware of this and I was promised clarification. I returned to work after STD and now 6 months later I'm terminated due to financial problems in the company. I'm offered a severance pay of 2 months and after I had to bring it up again they are also willing to pay the 2 weeks STD pay since it is clearly stated in our employee handbook. Would that qualify for a discrimination case and allow me for a better severance pay package?

Doesn't sound like discrimination at all. It sounds like they just misunderstood the terms of their short term disability plan, and therefore informed the employees incorrectly. Now that you have brought it up they are doing the right thing and offerring to pay you for the two weeks that you were "promised" in the employee handbook.

Frankly, I'd recommend that you take their offer immediately before they have a chance to withdraw it. It sounds quite generous.
