I live in Michigan, I got a call from my sister Tuesday morning that my father
was diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas. My sister was hysterical as was i, i called into work telling them i would not be there and the situation i was in. I left to be with my famliy which was a 5 hour drive away. I was scheduled for the next 3 days off. The next morning i called my dentist to let them know why i wasnt at my appointment that day. The receptionist asked me if i was still employed at my present position. I asked her why would you ask me that . She said she had phoned my work number and they told her i didn't work there anymore. to say the least i was beside myself, i called work and the manager said i was no call no show and fired (this is a lie as i had talked to her twice) I was also informed by other employees that she was telling people i didn't show because my dad was having a biopsi (a lie as we already had the results on tuesday . I"m pissed is there anything i can do

Well, first, don't lie any more.

Secondly, show up for your next regularly scheduled day of work and ask to meet with the HR Representative/Manager to discuss the situation.

I haven't lied, and my next scheduled shift was yesterday i was told to turn in my keys on wednesday i would have felt a little foolish showing up for work and the only manager at this place is the one that fired me in the first place. i did place a call into a hotline for employees and left a messege.

Sorry, I misread your post, which was not hard to do, considering it had no caps at the beginning of the sentences.

Since you talked over the phone with your manager twice about your days off, it would really be your word against theirs since there are no witnesses who heard the conversation (I'm assuming). But, I would pursue the matter with your manager's superior. I don't think that they can do something like this to you, firing you when you had settled it with her to be gone for three days. If your manager doesn't have a direct superior, I would go to the top about it. The store manager perhaps. Sorry about your father, and sorry your boss did this to you. Unfortunately, people have no abilities to be compassionate about family matters anymore in business. But, a case you may have against your manager that fired you is that they are slandering you in public. Since your manager is telling everyone why you had been fired, when he/she and you BOTH know it is not true, they are doing it in a spiteful and malicious manner and should face consequences for slander. Hope you get this worked out. (Oh, and by the way, I didn't have any trouble understanding your message...and if people responding want to simply respond to your grammar, they are not being helpful and might as well keep it to themselves!)

You have nothing to be sorry about, PattyMD needs to actually learn to read and understand what she just read before making a post. Just from what she posted she seems like she's very rude and doesn't have ebough knowledge to answer your question.

First of all, tiffany, it's my job, not yours, to reprimand any posters. In the second place, you have no business re-opening a post that is two months old in order to make your nasty comments. If a poster needs to be talked to about rudeness, I'll do it, and I won't necessarily do it in public.

Keep your posts appropriate if you're going to post here.
