When we rented this house we knew it was old and if we needed the ac's fixed that were here we may have to pay a $25 fee, OK. A year later when the ac's quit we called the repair man and he says he will bring us an old one but it works. Well its been 3 weeks, no repairman and no work from him. We received a letter today saying that there will be a $25 fee for all repair calls. This is an old house with rotten boards and the repairing that was done before us was very cheap. Can they really charge us for doors coming off the walls because the wood that its hinged to is so rotten it falls off. Or the tiles coming down in the bathroom? This is their house to fix we are only here tempery so why should we have to pay them any more money for crappy housing. When we had the furnace turned on last winter he would not even pay $50 to get the gas company to come and check it out he got the handyman to do it, who is not certified. He still hasn't fixed the door knob that doesn't even work all we have to do is push open the door. Can they do this??

Sounds like you'd be better off moving.

They can't charge you a fee to make repairs. I suggest moving.

You need to read your lease to see each parties' obligations. If you feel you need to move for safety reasons, see about the lease provisions that may enable you to do so. I suggest taking the lease to an attorney to assist you in understanding the terms and ways to break the lease and move if you are not satisfied and feel it will not get better.
