Hi. I plan on leaving California and relocating across the country during December. I want to give my employer as much notice as possible, so they can train someone new for my position. However, I dont want this to backfire by them finding a replacement and letting me go before I actually want to leave. If I give them a one month notice, are they required to pay me for that last month? Or should I wait until right before I leave to tell them? Thank you.

Under California law, they are not required to pay you for the period of time between the date you give your notice and your last day of employment, even if that last day is prior to the date you provided as your final date of employment. You should assess whether your employer would treat you fairly and then act accordingly.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
