I started a job at an icecream parlor about a week ago. The owner told me after I was hired that we do not get any breaks during our 6 hour shifts.I cannot go six hours without eating because I get headaches. He told me I could clock out for 5 or ten minutes to eat. The next day, I was yelled at by the manager (his son) for doing so,even though I asked for permission by the assistant manager first. Is being forced to clock out for 5 or 10 minutes legal? Is working for 6 hours without any break at all legal?

Neither Federal nor Virginia law requires that you be given any breaks at all, so yes, it is legal for you to work six hours without a break.

While Federal law does not require breaks, it says that IF breaks are offered, breaks of under twenty minutes or so must be paid breaks.
