Hello, I am 17 years old from Howell, Michigan. Recently my parents have taken up a religion way to strongly which I don't believe in. But seeing I am under their roof I do have to obey their laws. I ran away when I was 16 but I was caught by the state police before anyone noticed I was gone. The reason I ran away was my parents took my car from me because they believed that i was becoming "worldly" and I didn't need any farther influnence. I was mad and ran away to go live with a person from work. Well anywayz, I was caught and the cops said not to wreck anything and just move away when I'm 17. Well I looked everywhere on the internet to see if I could just pack up and go. But everythign I'm finding you have to have a parent sign a paper before anything. I don't have a job, I don't have a license, and a car. My parents took it all away from me. My boyfriend joined the National Guard, so he'll have money when he comes back to get an apartment and a car. And i defiently know my parents won't just up and sign a paper, they believe in a girl staying home until she's married. And if I wait another year (when im 18) we might be in Kentucky, which I dont want to go there then pack up and move back.Ya'll might think I'm being a drama queen or whatever but I'm just saying I don't like the way they treat me and my boyfriend. He's not allowed to see me cause my dad saw us holding hands *shrugs*
I was just wondering does anybody have any answers for me please??

Hi its probably too late now but im gonna go ahead and post on this anyway....ok so im 18 almost 19 now but when I was 16 I too ran away from home, with the help of my 2 older sisters who wanting nothing more than for meto get out of the hell i was living in. But, just like you, i had to go back home because there was nothing I could do. But while I was gone, I learned a few things. All the lawyers I talked to told me that legally i could move out at 17 if I wanted too and there was nothing my parents could do about it. I would just have to go home and live through the next couple months till I was 17. I also learned that there are some social workers that shouldnt be social workers because none of them believed me when i told them what was happening to me at home. So, I guess what im trying to say is, yes, at 17, you can move out without having to "sign something" with your parent. I did and my life has been better ever since. Even if your scared like I was, just do it.
