kysmae 08-26-2005, 05:43 PM  What’s the true meaning of Reasonable Accommodation? cbg 08-26-2005, 05:53 PM I don't know what you mean by the "true meaning" but I'll give it my best shot. For any condition that is covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act, if the employee is capable of doing their job but needs some help to do so, the employer is required to provide an accomodation that will allow them to do that job, but that accomodation has to be reasonable; i.e. not cause the employer undue hardship. As a very easy example, a reasonable accomodation for a cashier who has a condition which makes it difficult for her to stand all day, might be to give her a stool. But for an employee who has a vision problem, it would NOT be a reasonable accomodation to hire another employee to read to her, although getting her a magnifying glass or putting her materials on a computer screen that could be enlarged might be. BTW,your posts have indicated that you are pregnant. In all but a very few cases, pregnancy is NOT covered by the ADA and no accomodation, reasonable or otherwise, is required. kysmae 08-26-2005, 06:26 PM I know it does not reply to me it was something I was so sure about it's true meaning. thanks |
