My company has just asked our sales force to submit resumes, SS#"S, schooling verifacations, etc. I have been with the company for 4 years and my back ground check came through fine. I have some concerns as to why they are doing this. They say it is for a data base change, but they should have all this information in HR. There is an astmosphere of paranoia since my company just laid off 700 employees and stated they are planning more lay offs over the coming months. What is your feedback. Thanks in advance for your response.
I don't see any reason to assume that the questions they are asking for means that there are going to be layoffs, or that there is some sinister reason behind it.
But whatever the reason, and regardless of whether they "should" have all this information or not, the answer is simple. You can give them the information or you can choose not to. If you choose not to, the employer can take what action they choose, including terming your employment. There is nothing in the information you have listed that there is any reason they should not have access to. They are not asking for anything that the law restricts them from having.
