Hi, I've been very concern in these past days due to this situation. Due to my past working experiences and due to my priorities in life, I decided to change from one working field to another, and I was hired only couple of months ago in a new job which I accepted because of the working schedule and second because of the job description, in the interview it was said to me that only OCCASIONALY I would be asked to work a little bit late, I worked in a Human Resoures Department and I know this question is part of the routine. Just to find out that same day I started to work, I had to work on day of the week till late and before I accepted I made clear I had my obligations in my persobak life that I had to attend, two days of the week for my religious meetings. Here is he catch I obviously was disapointed and very mad due to the situation that I was in, well now one of my co-workers resigned and they pretend that I work till late at least three day of the week. First of all, that was not the agreement I accepted, it is obvious my job description did not say, flexible hours, and I made clear I hac my religious engagements that I attended and that was one of my priorities in life. What should I do?

Is it religious discrimination? Only if they are treating you differently because of your religion. If all people are required to work those hours, it may be difficult that they are singling you out.

On the other hand, I believe that most employers do try to assist a person who asks for a religious accommodation. Have you talked with your manager about your need to attend the religious engagements? (I assume, by the way, that the religious engagements are truly related to worship, etc.,, as opposed to secular events sponsored by the church, such as picnics, social get togethers, exercise classes, etc.

If it isn't discrimination and your employer does not wish to grant you the time off, your option is to find another position that better meets your schedule.

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the information I also understood that when I went to eeoc.gov, but I still have that concern of the schedule because the company pretends me to work when that was not what I accepted, and like I said before the job description of the position it is not indicated as a flexible schedule.
