Is it legal in Indiana to cut an employee wage (by $4.00 per hour) because of a department change due to merger of institutions? My department has changed but the duties (clerical) are comparable to those I have been responsible for for the past 4 1/2 years. If it makes any difference, I have always had above average reviews and maximum pay increases. I was previously salary and changed to hourly by HR about 9 months ago. Now I have been notified of the wage cut that is being back dated to April of this year. I cannot believe that this could be legal.

Yes, it is legal, if it is as a result of a merger or other business reason such as that.
