I have worked for a doctors office in Nevada for the past 6 years. I have started noticing a pattern of discrimmination which I'd like to report. I have tried to discuss this with the doctor, who by the way is not the source of this discrimmination, to no avail. The person discrimminating is the practice manager in our outlying office. She is constantly holding services on our Hispanic patients unless they pay for the service in advance. And she particularly asks for cash only. I have tried to intervein on behalf of these patients but she ultimately has the control since the service they are requesting originates in her office. How can I help this group of people. Who can I turn to for help?

Does the doctor's office have at least 15 employees? The reason I ask is that federal discriminaiton law applies to employers with at least 15 employees. Nevada recognizes federal law but it does not bring the number of employees down lower (as is the case with California and some other states).

If the doctor does not have at least 15 employees, then you don't have a legal basis upon which to base your concern. You can speak with the Office Manager and the physician and appeal to them on a business basis...having a reputation for discriminating against certain persons is bad for business.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

My first question is whether what you described applies only to Hispanics, or to other minorities or protected classes as well.

For a start, you can visit the Nevada Governor's Office for Consumer Health Assistance Bureau for Hospital Patients. http://govcha.state.nv.us/.

You can also contact one of your state (http://leg.state.nv.us/) or federal representatives (Senate: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm?State=NV, House: http://www.house.gov/house/MemStateSearch.shtml), who can guide you to the right place.

I hope this helps!
