Hello I worked about 25 minutes overtime last week, I know not much but my employer sent me en email saying that the time was not authorized and therefore I will only be paid for 40 hours of work. I will not be paid at all for that 25 minutes. Can they do that? Not pay me for time worked?
Thanks

They cannot do that, if you are non-exempt. They must pay you for all of your time worked, even if it was unauthorized. You may file a claim with the state.

However, even though they must pay you, they can discipline you in any other way they find appropriate for working unauthorized overtime.

How do I file a claim with the state? I did not get paid for the overtime, and I can not clock in till 7 and have to clock out at 5 even if I am still working.
I usually only work for 5 or 10 minutes, but that time adds up over a week.
