I have been working for 5 years at a business in North Carolina, on the night shift from 10 pm to 4 am. Now all of a sudden they are MAKING everyone work from 10 to 6. Can they do that? When I started, I had to fill out an availability which I did, it stated 10 to 4 and that was fine....until now. This is a very big national company......that use to respect the individual,,,,now it seems all they want is money, money, money. And they do make money, and now it is at the expense of employees. can anyone offer me why they can just do this after an availibility has been in effect for 5 years.

I have been working for 5 years at a business in North Carolina, on the night shift from 10 pm to 4 am. Now all of a sudden they are MAKING everyone work from 10 to 6. Can they do that? Yes. Unless you have a bonafide employment contract with particulars to the contrary, your employer may change your schedule any time they wish to.

When I started, I had to fill out an availability which I did, it stated 10 to 4 and that was fine....until now. This is a very big national company......that use to respect the individual,,,,now it seems all they want is money, money, money. And they do make money, and now it is at the expense of employees. While a schedule change often is very inconvenient for the effected employees, I don't see how they're making money at your expense. I assume you're a non-exempt (hourly paid) employee and therefore they're going to pay you for the additonal time you're working.

can anyone offer me why they can just do this after an availibility has been in effect for 5 years. They can do it because they're the employer and management has the right to determine the hours and conditions of work. The only reason they would be making this change is because in their judgement business conditions dictate that it's necessary.
