I have a question regarding Lunch laws in Indiana. I was wondering if a full hour for lunch is mandatory. I am wanting to only take a 1/2 hour for lunch. My hours are from 8:30a.m.-5:30p.m. I am wanting to take a 1/2 hour lunch so my hours could be 8:30a.m.-5:00p.m. I want to make sure that a 1/2 hour could be considered a lunch under Indiana law before I ask my supervisor for this request. Please advise!!

Thanks,

Jewels Renee

There is no law in Indiana regarding lunch breaks. The lunch break is the length of time the employer says it is.

If you want to take only a half hour lunch break AND your employer agrees, no one will be violating the law. But if your employer says no to your request and insists that you take an hour lunch, that is legal too.
