I don't know what to do. I'm trying to find out as much legal stuff as I can. Here's the situation; I'm seven months pregnant and the father and I were together for about three years. When he found out that I was pregnant he was not supportive at all he acted happy at first and then he went crazy. He was very verbally abusive and I'm not with him anymore. He is now calling me telling me that he is going to take my child away and that I will never see my son. He says that his family has alot of money and money talks. Altough, he has a criminal record and he is suicidal he swears he can take my child from me. This is very agrivating and i need yalls advice; what should I do? and how should I handle the hospital and the birth certificate?

If he is/was at all abusive (as you alluded to), you might want to get a restraining order against him, which can prevent any contact.
As far as the birth certificate is concerned, the father's portion does not necessarily have to be filled out if the mother is unmarried.
However, consider the information on the Texas Department of State Health Services web site regarding why paternity should be established: http://www.tdh.state.tx.us/bvs/patern/patern.htm. In a nutshell, child support cannot be enforced if paternity is not established, among other things.
Also look at the case when the mother is unmarried: http://www.tdh.state.tx.us/bvs/patern/notmarr.htm
I hope this will give you a start.
Good luck.

Document the abuse and threats. Record phone calls. Get witnesses who are credible to hear them as they occur. Maybe his family will bank roll his custody challenge, but if you can prove he is unfit to be a parent, at most you should face grandparent visitation request. They may go after you hard too. But it may be best to go to court and seek sole custody with no visitation given the father is a risk to himself being suicidal and a risk to the child and unfit to care for the child. Seek legal counsel in doing this is my suggestion. If you are lacking money, contact Legal Services, Legal Aid for assistance, and sometimes local bar associations have attorneys that take cases pro bono, for free.
