I am logging on for the first time.
I would like to know when my legal responsibility to pay CS stops. My daughter will be turning 18 this fall. Her mother moved her to Florida from Arkansas without my knowledge about 2 years ago. I continued to pay child support through Arkansas even though I did not know where my daughter had moved. I received a notice from Florida that I was in default on the CS and that they would withhold an arrears of about $2000 from my check. I contested this as Florida indicated they had no knowledge of my continuuing payments to Arkansas.

I never heard from the inquiry that I logged with Tennessee Child Support.
You see, Florida had no record of my pay to Arkansas. I currently live in Tennesse and the Florida case was transferred to Tennessee.

I was told that the Arkansas rules still apply since that is the state that issued the Divorce Decree with child support allowance.

Even though I presented cancelled checks showing that I had indeed kept up with the child support even though I did not know where my daughter was in Florida, they did not seem to register with Tennessee, Florida, and the original Arkansas order.

I decided that my x-wife and daughter probably could use the extra moneyl

However, I now need to inquire as to when the child support will stop and how I go about stopping it. You see, I do not know if my daughter is in school, is married, or what. My contact with my x-wife is not reliable, and never has been. It's a long and sordid thing.

When will my support stop and what do I do when she turns 18 this fall?

Sorry about this. You need to go to the court that has control, in TN, and seek an order to terminate support. You also need to go about getting the other child support orders voided because you continued to pay your support as ordered even though the mother moved and gave you no idea as to the whereabouts of her and the child. After getting the termination order, serve it on all courts and states that have been involved.

Dear Elklaw,

Thank you for your reply. Fortuitously, today I received a notice in the mail from Tenneessee Child Support that my child will soon turn 18 and this will affect child support.

This notification says that I must provide written proof that my daughter is no longer in high school or that the class of which she was a member when she turns 18 has graduated.

This will be the most difficult thing for me to provide. I kept paying support. I even sent my daughter birthday and Christmas money. However, I never received information regarding her high school name or how she was doing.

In the past I have been told that she was doing fine only to find out that she failed 7th grade. I drove 50 miles to and 50 miles back from her school when she was in Arkansas that 7th grade year trying to modify her performance in school. I drove to her school music program on a one day notice because her mother would not attend . (She lived about 3 blocks from the school and was not working. There is definitely apathy on her part for the educational system.)

I.E., I have tried to maintain support. But when she moved to Floriday without contacting me for 6 months , it became apparent that my teenage daughter had been influenced to the point of seeing my attempts to have input as "bossy interference."

Sooo, how do I find out if she is indeed still in school, where, etc.? Do you think that I should hire a detective or just make a phone call to hear more possible lies? How can I provide proof?

Thanks. Waiting for your reply. McGower
