Hello all, my name is Lori, and i just need some advise on what to do. I have a three year old and i have been trying to collect child support through the State of Florida, through the Department of Revenue (Child Support Enforcement). When "M" (my sons father) and i split up he moved to Sarasota, which in two years he saw his son four times. He has recently (Feb) moved back to Ft. Lauderdale. Still not seeing his son but once a month (if that). He has not made a child support payment since Jan. I just got a half payment a couple of days ago, but it seems that he just doesn't understand the amount of money it takes to raise a child, nor does he seem intrested to find out. My problem is it just doesn't seem as if the State is doing anything about it, he didn't pay for 5 months and his license just got suspended last week. They can't garnish his wages because he is a sub contractor for the company he works for. I am just not sure what to do, i honestly feel i am getting nowhere with the state.

If his license is suspended, I am not sure how you expect him to be able to get about to make some money. So I think you are dug in an even deeper hole here. I am not sure what to say because I think you have unrealistic expectations about this man and how he will help support your child. I don't think it is a matter of getting aggressive thru the state, this sounds like a person who cares but just not at the level you know is needed of a parent to be financially responsible. I doubt that will change. So I think maybe you need to get an attitude readjustment, maybe seek counseling to figure out how to be more positive about the situation and to come up with ideas about how to deal with the financial issues better on your own.

I think taking away a person's Driver's Licence for non payment of child support has several issues. I have read some of the previous person's post's and feel that person is right on target for practically every time he gave help. I think the main reason that a Driver's License is suspended is to force the issue and get them to realize they need to pay the child support. Maybe if they have to work extra hard to get places because they have no license then they are more willing to pay. I am in the same position. My ex. will have his Driver's License suspended tomorrow if he doesn't make a payment. I have no clue what the payment is that he was told to pay. I know he will still drive on a suspended license because he has done that before. It is hard if they can't get to work like the person before me said but too bad. It is harder to scrape by and have a super hard time just providing the basics plus taking care of All the kids needs. Let me know if the suspended license did the trick.
